About Spetses
A small, low-lying island, Spetses is famous for shipbuilding, pine forests, and the role it's citizens played in the 1821 Greek War of Independence. Although it lacks the style of its sister island Hydra, Spetses is less expensive and caters to a younger, more boisterous crowd. The waterfront at night is crowded with people of all ages. Along the main street there are numerous English-style pubs mixed in with tavernas and souvlaki shops. Nightclubs and discos abound, particularly around the Old Harbor of Baltiza.
